The Affenpinscher
From rat catcher to favorite lap dog
The Affenpinscher is one of the oldest lap dogs. The origin of this dog is in Germany. The name Affenpinscher means 'monkey terrier' in German. In French they call this dog Diablotin Moustachu, or: moustachioed devil. The Affenpinscher got earlybred to catch the pests around the house, in the kitchen and stables. Ladies loved this nice size dog, making it a lap dog.
These dogs are probably a cross between Pinschers and Asian pugs. All in all existt the Affenpinscher for a very long time. The breed was portrayed several times in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries by the artists Jan van Eyck and Albrecht Durer.
In Germany, these dogs are the oldest and least changed dogs. You first come across these dogs in 1879 in the reference book 'The Life of the Animals', with an extensive description of the breed.

playful watchdog with a stubborn character
Although this dog was formerly bred to keep the home free of pests, today the Affenpinscher is a loyal friend to the family. What has not changed is the courageous and alert nature of these dogs. Is someone at the door? Then you know immediately thanks to your dog. They are therefore ideal watchdogs. Affenpinschers are playful. They love to scrutinize every room. Do you lock them up somewhere? Then this dog almost always finds a way to escape. They don't handle boredom well. This dog breed is happy with any kind of distraction.
Affenpinschers are affectionate dogs that, if socialized early, get along well with other dogs and strangers. They don't always get along well with young children because of their size and vulnerability. However, the Affenpinscher can be brutal and stubborn at times. They have a will of their own. Fortunately, these dogs don't stay in their stubborn mood for long. You can easily distract them with a fun game. Fortunately, this stubbornness does not stand in the way of them either, they adapt fairly quickly to a new situation. Because this dog breed is very smart, he quickly understands what you expect of him. The Affenpinscher likes to be at the service of his owner and loves to cuddle.
The Affenpinscher is a happy, funny dog that will put a smile on your face every day with their monkey tricks. They have a reasonable amount of energy and are flexible and adventurous. They are therefore the ideal travel companion.
